Measurement and consent
Where measurement is carried out, Google's measurement tools are used (whichever of Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Google Ads have been configured). The purposes are to count visits and the like and, where advertising is used, to measure its effectiveness.
- Before consent: The "Analytics consent" notice is shown. Nothing is loaded from Google until you press "Accept".
- After consent: Google's tag is loaded. Google's tag stores cookies in the browser and sends information about the visit to Google.
- If you do not consent: The measurement tag is not loaded. Articles can be read as they are.
- Changing your choice: While measurement is being carried out, you can choose again from "Analytics settings" at the bottom of any page. If you change to "Decline", the tag is not loaded from the next page you open. Cookies already stored are not deleted automatically, so please delete them from your browser's settings.
- Global Privacy Control: If the browser sends this signal, it is treated as not consenting. The consent notice and "Analytics settings" are not shown.
- Advertising-related signals: Where only Google Analytics is used, the advertising-related consent signals are set to "denied". Where Google Tag Manager or Google Ads is used, these signals also become "granted" after consent.
The two values stored in the browser
od_consent: whether you consented to measurement or did not.od_suggest_dismissed: that you closed a notice, such as "This page is also available in English.", telling you that a version in another language exists.
Both are stored inside the reader's browser (localStorage) and are not sent to the server. They can be deleted from the browser's settings.
Whether to show the language notice is decided inside the reader's browser from its language setting. This site does not switch languages automatically.
Links to external services and share buttons
- Apart from the measurement tag after consent, no fonts, scripts, images or the like are loaded from other sites.
- The share buttons (X, LinkedIn, Facebook, WhatsApp, LINE, Weibo) are plain links. Nothing is sent to those services unless you press one. When you press one, the title and URL of the article are passed to that service.
- Links under "Sources" in articles, and other such links, lead to external sites. How information is handled there is governed by each site's own terms.
Access logs
As with other websites, the server on which this site is placed keeps a record of access (IP address, date and time, requested URL, browser information) on the equipment of the business that provides the server.
Revisions
When this Privacy Policy is revised, the revised version is posted on this page together with the date of revision.
